Our world is advancing and changing right before our very eyes at an unprecedented speed. Today’s innovation will become yesterday’s news sooner than we think. How will we ever keep up? Will the knowledge I have today be relevant tomorrow? That seems like a difficult question to answer, but we can do it. How, you ask? Well, through technology of course. Technology is what helps stay relevant in a world of constant change.
The only problem with this is that because there is so much of it, it can be difficult to choose one technology over another. In light of this challenge, I wanted to share some of my top tech tools that I have either used and/or reviewed heavily, so without further adieu and in no particular order, here are my TOP 10 TECHNOLOGY TRENDS IN THE MEETINGS INDUSTRY:
Blind introductions are the worst at in-person events and if people don’t know each other prior to, it’s easy for things to get a little awkward. An online community can put the participants at ease with “meet and greet” forums, Virtual booths, live Q&A, chat sessions, etc., to create a more positive and engaged event experience.
Industry Network/Event Marketing
This could be the Google + of the meetings industry. BoB.tv or “Best Of Business” is an industry-specific content curation platform. This is a one-stop-shop for information about work, career, and life management targeted specifically for meeting professionals. It is a newer platform so it hasn’t gained the popularity just yet, but it is definitely something to keep on the radar.
Mobile Event App
Creating a mobile app for your event has become an industry best practice and native apps are the way to go. As far as mobile event apps go, you don’t have to be a rocket scientist to figure this one out and it gives you a lot of options. Import map pins, integrate social feeds, upload event content, manage the onsite experience, and more but without all the hassle.
Social Network Management
You have to be on multiple channels these days to make an impact, but surfing them doesn’t have to seem like a waste of time. This social media command center puts you in the right conversation at the right time with pre-scheduled posting options and helps you find out if you’re being heard with analytics, all from one place.
You don’t have to be an expert, but you should be able to make an informed decision the next time you strike up the bandwidth conversation. The next time you visit the site, just plug in your info and instantly receive capability ratings on guest rooms, meeting rooms, and public spaces.
You shouldn’t have to slow down to keep up. Stay on top of your game and easily track business travel even when you’re on the go. Bring some color back into your travel logistics with this red hot app!
Has meeting attendance gone down? Rather than trying to catch the red eye, try broadcasting an event remotely. Virtual and hybrid meetings have become wildly popular because you can meet with others in another room, another region, or even another country. Meet whenever and wherever, easily and productively in a professional fashion.
Cross one more thing off your list with handy dandy to do list app. No more staying up at night wondering if you forgot to do something. You can create virtual lists to make sure that you get everything done without ever having to put a pen to paper, unless you really want to.
Scheduling – Calendaring
You manage countless schedules, but who is managing yours? Don’t forget that you have a life too. Keep the work/life balance in order and make your days easier to manage with this intuitive calendar tool.
From presenter notes to staging ideas to conference binders, put it all into Evernote and instantly synchronize it to other devices and platforms. If you’re having trouble keeping it together these days then this multi-use, cross-functional tool could make your life a lot easier.
Bonus! Just for Fun
There is a wide variety of tools out there to help you become better at what you are already doing. Tools that will help you work smarter, not harder and that will help make your everyday life a tad bit easier to manage. The things we are capable of today will be miniscule in comparison to what we will be capable of tomorrow. Technology is the only thing that will prepare us for today, tomorrow, and 10 years from now.
